Why your business needs its own website, not just a Facebook page
A Facebook page is a billboard on someone else's land. Here's why your business or church needs its own website, and how we build one for you.
Hey y'all, Greg here. I've spent 20+ years in AV and IT, and the last 2+ years running S3 Media Team right here in Houston, Mississippi. One of the most common things I hear is, "We don't need a website. We've got a Facebook page."
I get it. Facebook is free, your folks are already on it, and it's easy to post. Keep it! But if Facebook is the only place you live online, you're building on land you don't own.
The problem
Think of your Facebook page as a billboard on somebody else's land. It's a nice billboard. People drive by and see it. But the landowner sets the rules. They decide who sees your posts, how your page looks, what changes next month, and whether your page stays up at all.
A few other snags:
- Not everybody is on Facebook, and some folks who are don't want to log in just to check your hours.
- Your best info gets buried. Last spring's post about your hours sits under forty newer posts about the potluck or the sale.
- When someone searches Google for what you do in your town, a plain, clear website gives them a direct answer. A social page is a coin flip.
- You can't really shape the visit. No clear "here's what we do, here's how to reach us, here's the next step."
What it costs
For a business, every person who can't quickly find your hours, your service area, or a way to reach you is a person who might call the next name on the list. You'll never see that lost lead. It just quietly doesn't happen.
For a church or non-profit, the cost looks different. It's the visitor who wanted to know what time service starts and what to expect when they walk in. It's the shut-in who'd love to watch or listen from home but can't find where. It's the family new to town who searched and came up empty. That's not about keeping up with anybody. It's just about making sure the folks who are looking for you can find you, hear you, and watch you.
And if the landlord changes the rules on that billboard? You start over from scratch.
The fix
Get a home of your own. A simple, clean website that works on phones first, says who you are, tells people what to do next, and belongs to you. Keep Facebook as the friendly bulletin board and point it back home.
Here's the good news for church folks: you don't have to learn any of this. You don't need a "web guy" in the congregation. We build it for you, and we'll walk you through every step like a good coach on game day. You tell us about your people, we handle the rest.
For businesses, it's just as straightforward. You fill out our onboarding form, we build a site that fits how your customers actually look for you, and every site is built with accessibility in mind.
Simple pricing for a brand-new site:
- Starter (businesses): $517 setup, $83 a month
